A Dog, I View

In the grasslands I wait, feeling the dirt beneath me

I stand in all my glory and watch the sun rise to greet me

The wind barely messes with my coat and my hair

Though, five yards behind me, a creature lurks near

In spite of that, my ears flick back and forth

Searching for a sound I had heard towards north

My tail sweeps rapidly in agitation and distress

My hooves feel the earth shake, and I must confess

The heavy panting and breathing from its maw

Scared me more than the blood upon its claw

Its sharp bark is what fully draws my attention

A horrid howling is the next sound followed by a sick tension

For out between muddied hills and tall strands of grass

Comes a monster haggard, vile, and crass

Despite my legs being made to jump and to run

I am allowed one kick, one leap before I am done

There is a snap and a sharp sting ripples through my calf

As my leg is ripped and forcibly torn in half

I watch the creature attaches its jaws to my leg like glue

For behind me staring, is a dog I view.
