Rapunzel

Rapunzel, Rapunzel cut off your hair.
Wipe off that makeup, come down from there.
You can’t play with us when you look like a girl.
You can’t stay with us wearing jewelry and pearls.
Don’t be so lonely, so high in your tower.
In your pink bubble of perfume and flowers.
Take it all off and be a man.
Like who you really are. We know you can
You’ll waste your whole life in that tower up there.
Rapunzel, Rapunzel, why don’t you just cut off your hair?

Rapunzel, Rapunzel you are a disgrace
Your actions make a fool of the human race
Our hard work, our lessons, have been in vain
A man should be better at hiding his pain!
Your actions are sinful and will not be redeemed
Your appearance is disturbing, an afront to dignity
This isn’t you, one day you will see
You must behave like the man we planned you to be
How will you work, have children or live with prudence?
Your uncanny features will make you a nuisance
Oh how the mighty have fallen from grace
Rapunzel, Rapunzel you are a disgrace

Rapunzel, Rapunzel you look perfect up there!
I love to look at you, a being so rare.
Your body’s exotic blend of blue and pink
I’m here to collect you, I’m not what you think
I have a place inside me so null and void
I’m sad and bored, just looking for a new toy
You make me a rebel and a rider of trends
I’ll show you off to my family and friends
You are my possession, You are my prize
It’s not like anyone will love you otherwise!
An item like you may hide well from pressures
But I seek and find your kind like buried treasures
You so unique, you so rare
Rapunzel, Rapunzel you look perfect up there!

Rapunzel, Rapunzel tie up your hair
I know you mean well, but it’s dangerous out there
Locked doors and windows may feel like a cage
But maybe then you’ll survive to old age
There are people down here who want you killed
You are scum to them, no matter your skills
That tower is sad, but it is your place
You can’t walk through life with a hand on your mace
We live in a world filled with tigers and lions
They look handsome themselves but their mask is lying
When they see you and how you really are,
They will hurt you, I know this is hard
But you are the one out of place in this air
Rapunzel, Rapunzel tie up your hair!

Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair!
There’s beauty you have that should be shared
You stay silent, you want to make others proud
What you don’t know is that your silence is loud
It cuts through the air, makes it hard to breath
You have a face of stone when it needs to scream
To smile, to cry, to love, to hate
You can hide from harm, but you cannot hide from fate
With time, the safety of walls and closed windows become a tomb
So open them, don’t you know a flower needs sunlight to bloom?
There’s no label or identity that you need to be
You just simply need to be
So let us join you, let us see your tower up there.
Rapunzel, Rapunzel let down your hair.
