Burnout Valedictorian
I know I’m not going to miss all this,
When the bells are gone and the hallways sleep.
Maybe one day I’ll stop and reminisce
When I had not one care or thought so deep.
I’ll think not of classes, instead I’ll try
To remind myself that life is too fast.
There won’t be a single moment gone by
Where my mind and heart aren’t stuck in the past.
Years down the line, when I’ve reached for the stars,
When I’ve touched them and singed my fingertips;
I’ll look around at this world we call ours,
And remember when war was Battleships.
I always thought I would have time to spare,
But life does not wait while we stop and stare.
