Memories Touched by Time

I wonder when we cease to exist, 

if they will look back on our photos  

and see us for the lives we lived  

or for the memories we created. 

 

If they will be able to tell that before each picture 

you would position us in such a way that it  

wouldn’t even seem like a picture. 

That, the day was one of giggles as we tripped  

down the rocky hill and ended up finding  

a patch of greenery that was left untouched. 

 

I wondered then, if centuries before us 

two people had also stumbled here, 

stepping over this section of land  

with curiosity and love for one another. 

I wondered if they too thought about  

all those who would come after them. 

 

I wondered if the dirt beneath my feet held  

layers upon layers of heavy footprints  

that were also trying to make their  

presence known for eternity.
