My story to you

The first sign of love

I was in for the win

Not knowing the truth

Behind this man’s abuse

Left hit to my face

Right hit to my face

A broken nose with a direct blow

I thought that you loved me

I thought this was love

That no one could replace

Ten times in a year

Left me in so much fear

Not knowing what to do

Behind this shame

Behind this man’s abuse

A short hospital stay

I had to get away

Six years way too long

to pay for this helpless mistake

It’s been seven years today

Now I’m crying tears

For I’m happy to say

I’m free today

I’m beautiful in every way

Love yourself and be true

This story’s for you

I’m here to tell you

Once I was you

Name: C Gimmer

Bio: C. Gimmer is a 37-year-old woman who is an abuse survivor, but she does not let that define her. “My Story To You” was written for whom she thought was the love of her life, but wrote it more for anyone who finds themselves in a cycle of abuse. She hopes the poem finds the people who need to hear the message and wants to remind them that we are all beautiful and worth so much more.
