Two Poems

Reuniting With Faith

God, I know it’s been a while but:
I just want to talk about what’s happening,
I can’t seem to find you in any of this and that’s a tragedy,

I’m angry-
Your children are suffering at the hands of the justifiably crazy,

I look at the America you’ve created,
Is this how it’s meant to come undone?
Hard water pushing out anyone kissed by your sun?
They killed a woman,
Blue eyes and blonde hair,
I don’t mean to talk like you don’t know but I challenge, do you care?
She was shot without thought through the window of her SUV,
If they’ll do that to her…what will they to do to me?
What will they do to us? The brown skinned and our kin?
Soon They’ll be hunting us down by the length of our shins,
Where are you?
And why does it feel like you’re hiding?

We’re on a battlefield in our safe space-
Infighting,

How did Adam’s plan end like this?!

Taken on his hands and knees, trying to protect Eve-
Non-confrontational but they tell us the opposite,

As if we’re all incapable of seeing through lies with our own eyes,
WHY COULDNT LIAM RAMOS GO HOME!?
This is civil war with ICE picks,
I’m looking to 1964 for solutions in 2026,
Is this different?
I know it’s not the same race under attack,
But Nobel peace doesn’t carry the requirement of being black.
Please help us apply the lessons of that decade & come together,

That’s the only thing to do, One nation under you,
Don’t confuse my disgust in humanity with disbelief,
I’m confused and upset,
But this is just grief.
I trust in you, all your glory, and until we meet again,
In your name I pray, Amen

Night Cap

Your number,
A sacred text I memorized,
like scripture to the bless-ed eye,
Heart so big, its heaven sized.
A secret message;
That you only send to me,
I can’t believe your love is free,
and it’s always telling me to-
“fear not.”
Not just a number,
A mantra,

I whisper with myself to contra-
Hardship and/or melodrama-

“fear not.”
A secret pin to a holy space,
containing your embrace,

when I leave there’s no trace-
of my pain.

Caused by maniacal people,

Unwelcome because they are evil-
Fear not!

You said goodnight and I panicked,
I don’t want to escape love,

So organic but-
thank you.

I’m ok and I know that,
I praise you at night, when I tap,
You’re my holy, night cap.

Before I welcome life’s trap and-
Rest.
