Astronomy
Mom and Dad always say
“The brightest star in the sky is your loved ones”
So I study the stars,
and try to find one as bright as you, the fateful astronaut.
Who looped me in with Orion’s belt,
With eyes that are the sky themselves
Your crescent moon smile that lights up a room,
aaaaaaaaaaaaI always did like your smile the most.
But your journey across the galaxy awaits,
And my pleas to stay do no good
for someone that needs to see what’s out there.
Both too stubborn to collide
Too agreeable to feel
Too secret to say “You are the only one for me”
So until then, I’ll sit here on the hood of my car
In the darkness of night, wishing on shooting stars.
I’ll study the sky for your return.
Tell me all about your trip around Jupiter,
how you scaled the Big Dipper.
Tell me how beautiful Mars looked up close.
Tell me how you corralled constellations into our initials
aaaaaaaaaAnd how you couldn’t wait to come back
to gift me the atmosphere you kept in your pocket
Next to the dirt we walked on that you missed so.
